Move Toward Wireless Among Key Treatment Trends
Move Toward Wireless Among Key Treatment Trends
For wastewater treatment plant expansions and renovations, wireless technology is gaining popularity as a more convenient and less costly alternative to wired connections, according to this WaterWorld article. Specifically, the author looks at how wireless is used with analytical and diagnostic instruments in order to reduce the expense and difficulty of connecting these devices to a plant's central network. Another area covered is new sensor technologies that resist coating, which lengthens sensor life while minimizing maintenance requirements. The author also discusses how treatment plants can reduce energy use and costs, as well as new and lower-cost methods of chlorine analysis.

Breakthrough "Intelligent" Conveyor
  Breakthrough 'Intelligent' Conveyor
Shown as a prototype for the first time in September at the Motek show in Stuttgart, Germany, this new conveyor system has its own built in drives and motion control modules so that it acts as a single intelligent machine capable of driving industrial applications such as pick-and-place operations. In this new concept , each link in the conveyor can have a separate function. For example, each link could have tools, sensors, gripper, suction cups, machine vision cameras, or even small computers. To get an idea of what this machine is capable of doing, it is best to watch this video which diagrams its operation.

Demystifying Torque: What You Should Know About Torque Control and Its Impact on the Bottom Line

"To many manufactures, the concept of torque is a mystery. Controlling torque is quintessential for companies to ensure their product's quality, safety and reliability isn't compromised. The failure of a three-cent fastener that isn't properly tightened can lead to catastrophic or latent failures. Fasteners that are insufficiently torqued can vibrate loose and excessive torque can strip threaded fasteners. Using a quality torque tool has become increasingly important for many companies to ensure that proper torque is being applied and maintains gauge requirements associated with the ISO 9001 Quality Standard."
